My Dad was in the hospital then the rehab and we were told he could no longer live in his home. He needs too much care, and I had to look for a place for him. So a good friend of mine’s mother gave me the phone number of Golden Placement Services to talk to a lady named Diane.
I called her. She is from Multnomah County and after I explained to her about my Dad, she put me in touch with Cherie Henry from Washington County. Cherie has been so understanding and gave me the information I need.
The next day she had found an adult foster home for my Dad, just down the street from my house. Five days later my Dad moved into his new home, and he tells me how much he likes it there.
It was a first experience for me and it has been a very good one. I highly recommend Golden Placement Services.

When my sister and I learned during our mother’s second hospitalization in January 2012 that she was too frail and weak to return home and safely manage by herself during the day, we needed help to place her in an appropriate care situation quickly upon her upcoming release from the hospital.

Portland Adventist staff put us in touch with Ms. Diane Delaney of Golden Placement Services. Ms. Delaney came to the hospital to speak with us and discuss out mother’s needs and the care options available. She also met and spoke with our mother. We decided that the best option would be to place our mother in an adult care home. Ms. Delaney and the Golden Placement Services staff immediately went to work.

By the next day, they had located four possible placements for our mother at adult care homes within a reasonable driving distance of my home. Ms. Delaney accompanied us, at our request, to tour the homes and helped us interview the caretakers and evaluate each choice in terms of our mother’s needs and comfort. We found a lovely room in a home where our mother received the attention and care she needed until her death a few months later.

Ms. Delaney was discreet, compassionate and professional. When we called with questions, she promptly returned our phone calls and provided us with answers. Golden Placement Services worked quickly and efficiently to meet our needs. I would recommend Ms. Delaney and this agency to anyone needing placement assistance for a loved one.

This note is to thank you for giving me the name of Diane Delaney as one who could help me and my family find an appropriate assisted living arrangement for our mother, one of your clients.

Diane initially met with my brother and me, the rehab center staff and our mother herself, all to determine the kind of place that would best meet our mother’s needs. After contacting a variety of places, she took my siblings and me to see the types of homes available. Then, a week later she took us on another trip to visit alternate sites.

She made contacts ahead so that the home administrators or marketing staff knew we were coming and something about our mother’s needs. She stayed with us so that if we did not seek the necessary information, she was there to guide and assist us. In addition, she made follow-up phone calls to me making sure I had no further questions. My family is especially grateful to the sensitivity, professionalism and care that she shared with us as we made a very emotional decision.

Finding an appropriate adult care home for a parent is probably one of the most difficult task that a family
member will encounter. I could not imagine getting through his ordeal without the competent assistance
of Diane Delaney with Golden Placement Services.

We had an emergency situation, which required the immediate transitioning of our mother from an
unassisted retirement apartment to an adult care home. Diane assured us that she could help us find a
suitable placement with in our short time frame and she did just that!

It was so great to work with Diane from Golden Placement Services when my Grandma’s previous home said she had to move—during the holidays! I had no experience finding elder care, it was a busy, crazy time with my life and work, and I didn’t expect anyone would be available to help address our needs during the holiday season, but Golden Placement Services made it very easy to find a wonderful place for Grandma to live. Diane worked around my schedule, gave me several choices, then after my feedback brought back a short list to choose from. She also helped me partner with the rehab center to get some flexibility on time frames. Two weeks later Grandma was living in an absolutely amazing location. The staff at Golden Placement Services really had a good understanding of what type of home Mom would feel comfortable with and helped us confirm our feeling an adult care home would be our best choice. For months I had been looking for a new place for Mom: fielding those calls, looking on the Internet for Alzheimer’s care, learning the terminology. I was at tears. Then one Saturday I’m on the Alzheimer’s website and I called Golden Placement Services. Diane answered the phone. She’s not a retirement home; she’s a person who says, “I can help you.” I’m skeptical and teary eyed, so I said, “How do you help me?” She replied, “You tell me what you need and I’ll find it.” We talked; Diane was consoling and understanding. I started feeling relief. Then she informs me it’s no cost to me and through our conversation she came up with a list of my expectations and desires. Finally she says, “You just leave it up to me.”

Within 30 days of grueling work on the part of Diane and her associates: fielding the calls, getting interviews ready for myself and my brother, we had 15 places to choose from and Diane escorted us to them all. On tour days, she had all the directions and meeting times set up. It was easy and each place met all our expectations, but our adventure wasn’t over yet.

Mom had been moved to a nursing home in Eugene and it was horrible. I called Diane, who said, “Let me go find a different place for your Mom to stay temporarily.” She found an opening at a Marquis facility in Portland. It was like a 5-star hotel. I immediately moved Mom up from Eugene and my brother and I settled on 3 homes we would tour with Mom.

We got a surprise on the tours. Mom didn’t want the places I loved. She chose the one I liked least. To me, the home Mom picked was too sterile and strict about rules. Mom said my favorites were too fancy; they looked like hotels with their big pillars. She wanted a place like a home. Diane saw my hesitation and said, “Wait! I’ve got it. I’ve been calling this other place for weeks and they finally have a vacancy. Let’s go look at it right now.”

It was perfect. While touring the available bedroom I looked out the window and saw a tiny Romanian woman with an apron full of vegetables standing by the edge of the garden. She bent over by the pear tree to drop her load. Potatoes and cucumbers tumbled out of her apron. I fell in love with the place on the spot. I just hoped Mom would feel the same way.

Mom was worried about lunch. She wasn’t sure her stomach was up to eating. Dinner turned out to be chicken, potatoes from the garden, and fresh cucumbers in vinaigrette – everything Mom recognized and loved. She ate every bite enthusiastically. During the meal, Maria, the little grandmother from the backyard walked up and hugged Mom. It was as if Mom was back in her childhood home in the Netherlands and a neighbor lady had come over to care for her. I asked Nellie, the caregiver, if she liked my Mom. She said she did and hoped Mom would move in. I said we’d have to ask Mom, so Nellie asked, “Johanna, do you want to live here?” Mom replied, “I would love to!”

Today, because I found Golden Placement Services, Mom lives with a family, just like she wanted. She can sit at the dining room table all day long if she wants. The children and nieces and nephews come in and out. The grandmother, Maria, is there. It is wonderful.
